EVP Kayo Inaba Attends the 9th ASEAN+3 Heads of International Relations Meeting (August 29–30, 2019)

Dr. Kayo Inaba, executive vice-president for gender equality, international affairs, and public relations represented Kyoto University the ASEAN+3 University Network’s 9th ASEAN+3 Heads of International Relations Meeting, which was held on August 29–30, 2019, at Yunnan University, Kunming, China.

Approximately 100 people participated in the meeting, the theme of which was “University Contributions to Innovation, Business, Research, Initiatives, and Good Practices in the Context of a Growing Asian Economy.” On the first day, the meeting was opened with an address by Dr. Choltis Dhiathiti, executive director of the ASEAN University Network (AUN). The opening address was followed by an overview of K-Space, an entrepreneurship education and co-working space, which was delivered by Director Li Liang of the Technology Transfer Center at Yunnan University. In the afternoon, representatives from Peking University (China), Chung-Ang University (South Korea), the University of Brunei Darussalam (Brunei), the National University of Malaysia (Malaysia), and Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) delivered presentations on the current status and future plans of industry-academia collaboration and entrepreneurship education at their respective institutions. The final items on the first day’s agenda were reports of AUN activities and a vote to select the network’s 25th anniversary logo.

On the second day of the meeting, the participants were given a tour of the K-Space facility that was introduced by the previous day’s presentation, and of Yunnan University’s Chenggong Campus. The campus tour included an overview of Yunnan University’s research achievements and its future plans under the Chinese government’s Belt and Road Initiative. In the afternoon, the participants moved to Yunnan University’s Old Campus for a tour of the university’s historic buildings.
