On May 26, 2021, delegates from Kyoto University and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) met online to mark the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and discuss new paths for collaboration. UCLA Chancellor Gene Block and President Nagahiro Minato met with: Prof. Kyoko Inagaki, Executive Vice-President for Gender Equality, International Affairs, Public Relations, and External Affairs; Prof. Yasuyuki Kono, Vice President for International Strategy; Distinguished Prof. Shigefumi Mori, Director-General of the Kyoto University Institute for Advanced Study (KUIAS); Distinguished Prof. Susumu Kitagawa, Deputy Director-General of KUIAS and Director of the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS); and Prof. Fuyuhiko Tamanoi of iCeMS; Prof. Cindy Fan, UCLA Vice Provost for International Studies & Global Engagement; Prof. Tracy Johnson, Dean of Life Sciences, UCLA College; Prof. Kelsey Martin, Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; Prof. Jerome Zack, UCLA Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics, Chair; and Kathryn Paul, UCLA Director of International Collaboration.
