Kyoto University and Heidelberg University are engaged in various forms of collaboration, including the operation of liaison offices on each other’s campuses (the Kyoto University European Center opened in Heidelberg in 2014 and the Heidelberg University Office, Kyoto opened in 2015).
On June 7, 2021, an online meeting was held between the two universities to discuss plans for future collaboration. The participants from Kyoto University were President Nagahiro Minato, Dr. Kyoko Inagaki, executive vice-president for gender equality, international affairs, public relations, and external affairs, and Dr. Yasuyuki Kono, vice president for international strategy. The participants from Heidelberg University were Rector Bernhard Eitel, Prof. Dr. Jörg Pross, vice-rector for research and first vice-rector, and Prof. Dr. Marc-Philippe Weller, vice-rector for international affairs.
