The 3rd Japan-India Universities Forum, a meeting of university presidents from Japan and India organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) was held in India on October 19, 2024. Prof. Yasuyuki Kono (vice-president for international strategy) attended on behalf of Kyoto University.
The forum was divided into three sessions. During the first session, speeches were delivered by H.E. Mr. Sibi Geroge, ambassador of the Republic of India to Japan, and Prof. Abhay Karandikar, secretary of the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India.
The second session comprised three concurrent roundtable discussions on the theme of “Promote Japan-India brain circulation and encourage their human resources to play an active role in the region”. Vice-President Kono co-chaired one of the discussions with Director Rangan Banerjee of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and gave a presentation titled “Toward Joint Partnership between Japan and India”.
The third session featured meetings between delegates from individual institutions, and provided an opportunity for the Kyoto University delegates to meet with counterparts from six Indian universities (details below) to discuss the further development of collaboration and exchange.
The forum is expected to contribute to the enhancement of cooperation between Japan and India, and facilitate a broad range of research and personnel exchange involving universities, research institutes, and companies in both countries.
