Executive Vice-President Tetsuo Sawaragi attends The 4th Japan-India Universities Forum (November 15, 2025)

The 4th Japan-India Universities Forum, a meeting of university presidents and executives from Japan and India organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), was held in India on November 15, 2025. Prof. Tetsuo Sawaragi (executive vice-president for research ethics, integrity, code of conduct, and international affairs) attended the forum on behalf of Kyoto University.

The forum opened with an address by Dr. Kazuhito Hashimoto, president of the JST, and the opening ceremony also included speeches by Prof. Budaraju Srinivasa Murty, director of host institution the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, and other delegates.

During the forum’s roundtable meetings, EVP Sawaragi participated in the life science table, which was held under the theme of “For universities and institutions to promote India-Japan collaboration of research in advanced fields.” The delegates from each participating university delivered presentations, with EVP Sawaragi speaking about Kyoto University’s collaboration with Indian universities and its research related to biotechnology. The presentation was followed by a lively discussion with the other delegates.

EVP Sawaragi also participated in three separate meetings with delegates from individual universities to discuss the further development of education and research cooperation between Kyoto University and the other institutions.

The forum is expected to further promote Japan-India cooperation, and stimulate broader research and personnel exchanges involving universities, research institutions, and companies in both countries.
