Prof. Yasuyuki Kono, vice-president for international strategy, attended the 11th ASEAN+3 Heads of International Relations Meeting organized by the ASEAN+3 University Network. The event took place on April 24–25, 2024, at Xiamen University in Xiamen, China.
The meeting focused on the theme “Accelerating Sustainable and Inclusive Growth through Strengthened Collaboration and Solidarity between Universities in ASEAN and Beyond.” Over 70 participants attended the event.
The first day began with opening addresses by President Zhang Zongyi of Xiamen University, and Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, executive director of the ASEAN University Network (AUN). This was followed by keynote lectures from Prof. Bie Dunrong, dean of the Institute of Education of Xiamen University, and Prof. Li Cheng, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Office of Xiamen University.
In the afternoon, the participants were given a tour of Xiamen University’s Siming Campus, which was followed by group discussions focusing on key themes, strategies, and initiatives to strengthen university collaboration for sustainable and inclusive growth.
On the same day, meetings were scheduled between delegates from individual institutions, which provided an opportunity for Prof. Kono to meet with counterparts from Royal University of Law and Economics, National University of Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Xiamen University, and Chulalongkorn University to discuss the further development of education and research collaboration.
On the second day of the meeting, the participants visited the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences and the School of Public Health on the Xiang’an campus, touring the facilities and laboratories. In the afternoon, they visited Gulangyu Island and Xiamen University’s Institute for Advanced Study in Humanities and Arts.
