Workshop on “AI and the Law” with University of Zurich

On 7 September 2021, Professor Tatsuhiko Inatani (Kyoto University, Graduate School of Law) invited Prof. Dr. Florent Thouvenin (University of Zurich, Faculty of Law) to an online workshop on AI and law titled “Policy for AI Governance”. This event was co-organized by the Joint Research Centre for Law and Policy, Kyoto University.

First, Professor Inatani gave a presentation entitled “Governance Innovation: Japanese Novel Policy toward ‘Society 5.0′” on the framework and background of the new AI governance policy in Japan. This was followed by an overview of the “Act on Enhancing Transparency and Fairness of Specified Digital Platforms” by a legal expert — a Kyoto University alumni — from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). Prof. Thouvenin provided comments and described the situation in Switzerland and the EU.

The online event lasted about three hours and was attended by around 15 people from both sides. We look forward to continuing our collaboration on this topic.
