■Toshihiko Kishi Professor at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University
Areas of Research: History of cultural exchange between Japan and China, East Asian media studies, and migration studies
Before appointed to the current position at Kyoto University in 2010, he was professor at the Department of Business Administration of Kanagawa University and associate professor at the University of Shimane in Japan.
■Takuma Melber Lecturer and coordinator in the M.A. programme “Transcultural Studies” at the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context”, Heidelberg University
Areas of Research: History of modern Japan with a special focus on ‘Japan and WWII’ and history of Southeast Asia in the 19th and 20th century
Takuma Melber defended his doctoral thesis, Between collaboration and resistance: The Japanese occupation policy in Malaya and Singapore, 1942-1945, (original title in German) in March 2016 with summa cum laude (passed without corrections) and it will be published in 2017. His latest publication, Pearl Harbor – Japan’s Attack and the Entry of the US into the War, (original title in German) resulted in large amount of features. He is working as supervisor at the TV-channel ZDF for documentary films, as well.
(*) The lecture series “Nichi-Doku Joint Lecture” is organized in close cooperation of the Heidelberg University Office, Kyoto, and the Kyoto University European Center, Heidelberg Office, the liaison offices of both universities in Japan and Germany. It aims at promoting and strengthening research exchange between Heidelberg University and Kyoto University.
