Information about “High-Resolution Digital Parasite Slide Database from Kyoto University”

A high-resolution digital parasite slide database has been developed at Kyoto University to support practical and efficient learning of parasite morphology.

Specimens were digitized using Whole Slide Imaging (WSI) and organized into a structured, searchable platform. As a virtual slide system, the database provides access anytime and anywhere. Multiple users can observe the same slide simultaneously without concerns about specimen deterioration. An intuitive interface allows smooth zooming and navigation from low to high magnification, supporting detailed morphological observation and systematic learning.

The platform operates on a secure server system and can be accessed through a standard internet connection without special software. This enables stable performance and smooth sharing with institutions in different locations.

Currently, around 80 specimens from Kyoto University and collaborating institutions are included. The database is already being shared with universities in several countries.

Details of this initiative were published in Scientific Reports:

Access to the database is managed through a secure ID and password system. Institutions interested in obtaining access are warmly invited to contact us.

We welcome collaboration with educational and research institutions worldwide and look forward to further developing this platform together with international partners.
