President Nagahiro Minato Receives Online Courtesy Call from Rector of University of Vienna


On Monday, January 18, 2021, President Nagahiro Minato received an online courtesy call from Rector Heinz W. Engl of University of Vienna which is one of Kyoto University’s Strategic Partners (SPs) institutions. Kyoto University European Center acts as the liaison with international partners through the SPs scheme. The attendees from University of Vienna were Rector Engl, Professor Jean-Robert Tyran (Vice-Rector for Research and International Affairs), Dr. Barbara Good (Head of the International Office). On behalf of Kyoto University President Nagahiro Minato, Professor Kyoko Inagaki (Executive Director and Executive Vice-President for Gender Equality, International Affairs, Public Relations and External Relations) and Professor Yasuyuki Kono (Executive Vice-President for International Strategy and Director of the International Strategy Division) participated in this event.

The meeting began with a speech from Rector Engl to congratulate the appointment of President Minato. It was followed by a lively exchange on the current status and the future of the strategic partnership, suggesting the possibility of further research collaborations in the fields of data science and medicine.

Even though international travel is restricted due to the spread of COVID-19, the European Center will continue to actively support exchanges with universities in Europe and work to enhance the international research and education activities of our researchers and students.
