Kyoto University European Center participated in „Study in Japan!“ 2022

Kyoto University European Center participated in the student orientation event “Study in Japan!“ for students enrolled at German universities hosted by Nagoya University European Office on 7 October 2022.

The past years have dealt a blow to international academic mobility, making it nearly impossible to study abroad. Digitization and innovative virtual formats helped to bridge the gap, but they cannot substitute physical presence.

Recently, however, changes in travel and public health rules make it possible for foreign student to travel to Japan. With this in mind we were happy to introduce exchange opportunities to over 85 students at all stages of academic careers from undergraduates to Ph. D. candidates.

The event started with information provided by the Japanese Consulate (Munich) about current entry regulations as well as scholarships provided by the Japanese government. The presentations by the European centers of Kyoto University, Sophia University and Nagoya University followed in that order. We introduced Kyoto and Kyoto University focusing on its commitment to interdisciplinary research and presented first hand reports by former exchange students. The event was accompanied by questions about student life and prerequisites for studying at Kyoto University in the chat and the subsequent breakout sessions.

The way to recovering student mobility might be long, but „Study in Japan!“  showed that the spirit of students to go abroad is as strong as ever.

We thank Nagoya University European Office for organizing this event and Kyoto University’s International Student Division for their ongoing support.
