Kyoto University and Vienna University enjoy a lively exchange of incoming and outgoing students and researchers since the conclusion of research and student exchange agreements in 1993 and 1997. Research collaboration was further stipulated by a research partnership agreement in 2018. This was accompanied by the 1st Joint Workshop in Vienna in September 2018.
Dr. Juichi Yamagiwa (President of Kyoto University) and Prof. Heinz W. Engl (President of Vienna University) signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement in the presents of Hubert Heiss (Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Japan) on 8 October 2019. Its aim is to deepen the connections between both universities even further.
We think it to be a special honor, that this agreement was concluded with the historic Vienna University, in the same year that commemorates the 150 year anniversary of the Freedom and Friendship Agreement between Japan and Austria.
Kyoto University will hold the 2nd Joint Workshop on 24 and 25 October. Kyoto University European Center will support the workshop on site and is working towards strengthening the relations with Vienna University in Europe.
