The collaboration between Kyoto University and University of Zurich reaches back to their university level agreements for academic cooperation in 2013 and student exchange in 2014. This relationship has grown to a strategic partnership which both world-class universities concluded in 2020. The strategic partnership, which is conducted under the leadership of the university presidents, seeks to promote the cross-disciplinary development of existing research, joint research in new fields, and researcher and student mobility.
From 2021, by subsidising joint research and mobility of young researchers, new research topics have been initiated not only in the fields of medicine and plant science, but also in law and other fields.
The Kyoto University-University of Zurich Strategic Partnership Joint Symposium 2023 will review the achievements of the strategic partnership during the past three years.
Under the theme “Data Science and Social Impact”, the symposium also aims to exchange views on how data science and AI are affecting research in the social and natural sciences, including points that needs to be considered for the future.
