京都大学欧州拠点メールニュース No.65　京都大学を紹介するオンラインイベントを行いました

9月15日に欧州拠点初のオンラインイベント「京都大学欧州拠点オンライン座談会」を開催しました。

京都大学に関心のある欧州の学生や大学スタッフを対象に、本学の魅力を伝えることを目的に企画し、

当日は13ヵ国から約60名の参加登録がありました。

河野拠点所長からの冒頭の挨拶に続き、欧州拠点員も一人ずつ顔を見せて自己紹介しました。

前半の京都大学の紹介の後は、本学へ留学経験のある学生がドイツから、ハイデルベルク大学へ

留学経験のある本学学生が京都から直接インタビュー形式で貴重な体験談を聞きました。

京都大学を選んだ理由や留学経験から見えた良さなどの生の声は多くの参加者から好評をいただき、

“The student insight were very nice and informative.”, “The testimonials really hyped me up. “などの

声が寄せられています。

コロナ禍により直接の国際交流の先行きが不透明な現状ではありますが、多くの方が京都大学に関心を

向けてくれていることを感じられる機会となりました。

欧州拠点では、今後も欧州と日本とを繋げられるような取り組みを工夫して企画・実施していきます。

1.　欧州拠点Now!

■ハイデルベルク便り

９月末のこの時期はベルリンマラソンとミュンヘンのオクトーバーフェストに多くの観光客が集まるところですが、

今年は新型コロナウイルス拡大の影響でいずれも中止となってしまいました。

そして10月からはドイツの大学で冬学期がスタートします。そんな欧州から、ハイデルベルク便りをお届けします。

Six months into the beginning of the pandemic, Covid-19 is still holding Europe in a firm grip. After a relatively stable summer, numbers are rising all over the continent – in some places as high as or even higher as the first wave. Even though we know a lot more about the virus and health systems are better prepared, the lack of a vaccination or treatment and the coming flu season raises concerns for the winter season. In the face of this development European countries are trying to avoid another general lockdown and take smaller, regionally limited measures. If they succeed to balance security while upholding a relative normality is to be seen.

The coming months will also be challenging for European universities. In all countries, universities start their new academic year in September or October – except for Germany which postponed the start of the semester to November. In order to keep everybody safe and ensure the continuation of research and lectures, they apply more or less the same measures as they did in summer semester ranging from different degrees of digital learning to on- campus courses. Virtual lectures will still be the norm for most students. These can consist of pre-recorded lectures, podcasts or other offers of self-study-resources. Many lectures will be streamed live in a virtual auditorium enabling students to engage with their professors. At times, students will get “homework”, which will then be virtually discussed with their professors. In case of practice-orientated courses, a mix of virtual and on-campus learning in small groups – so called blended learning – will be applied. Very little universities encourage students to go back to campuses while enforcing strict hygiene standards, a strong emphasis on social distancing and detailed behavioral protocols.

An unexpected result of the pandemic is the rise of students’ numbers in some countries. After finishing school, some people take one year off for jobbing, traveling or social year. Since these are mainly impossible, they add to the usual number of incoming first year students. They all face an unprecedented situation. It is the first 21st century student generation that will miss an integral event in academic’s life. Freshmen won’t be able to experience their first days and semester at the university: a new environment, a new style of life, new faces, entering lectures halls or laboratories. Instead, many experiences their university entry virtually via Zoom or other platforms from home, missing the chance to take first steps towards their intellectual endeavors amongst their peers and forming important social networks. Some universities, including Heidelberg University, are trying to unburden this (psychological challenging situation) by prioritizing freshmen for on-campus activities. For example, ETH Zurich freshmen are organized in “bubbles” of 25 students that visit the same courses on campus. At Heidelberg first year courses are held with groups as small as 10 students. It is a little step towards normality, but if in-person lectures of even a small amount of people can be sustained amid the current development of events can be sustained is uncertain.

欧州の研究機関、財団、大学が提供するグラント・フェローシップを中心に、本学の研究者が応募可能な公募情報のなかでも、

“fund It”（https://fundit.fr/en）と呼ばれる情報ポータルには、他にも多くのグラント・フェローシップを掲載していますのでぜひご覧ください。

なお、学内事務を通じた応募が求められる場合、各部局での締め切りが1-2週間前に設定されることがありますのでご注意ください。

■カタルーニャ州　研究者交流プログラム：Tecniospring INDUSTRY

・趣旨：スペイン・カタルーニャ州政府の研究者交流プログラム(TecniospringINDUSTRY)の募集が開始されました。

タイプAは1年目にスペイン国外、2年目にカタルーニャ州の企業・研究機関で研究をするもの、

タイプBは2年間カタルーニャ州の企業・研究機関で研究をするもので、研究者の給与および研究関連諸経費の一部が助成されます。

■キヤノンヨーロッパ財団欧州研究奨学金・公募事業名：Canon Foundation Fellowships

・趣旨：ヨーロッパと日本の相互理解を促進することを目的として、ヨーロッパおよび日本の研究者に支給

・対象分野：全ての科学・研究分野

・支援期間：３～１２か月　

・応募資格：分野や年齢の制約なし、博士号取得後10年以内、欧州へ初めて渡航および他の助成金を受けていない申請者を優先

・助成金：22,500～27,500 EUR／年
