Strategic partnership agreement concluded with University of Zurich

Kyoto University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a Strategic Partnership with University of Zurich on 27 July 2020. It is the third bilateral agreement of this kind for Kyoto University. The signatures were meant to be exchanged in Japan. However, this was impossible due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and a virtual signing ceremony was held, instead.

On behalf of Kyoto University, Prof Juichi Yamagiwa (President), Prof Nagahiro Minato (Provost | Executive Vice-President for Strategy Coordination, Research and Hospital Administration) and Yasuyuki Kono (Vice-President for International Strategy) participated in the ceremony and Prof. Dr. Christian Schwarzenegger (Vice President Faculty Affairs and Scientific Information) on University of Zurich’s behalf. The ceremony was opened by a video message from University of Zurich President ad Interim Prof. Dr. Gabriele Siegert. After her warm greeting, the participants had a lively conversation on its long lasting relationship of both universities, its future potential and the impact of the Covid-19 was also discussed. This happened in such a relaxed atmosphere that the 7-hour time difference and the 9,500 km spatial separation was hardly felt. By concluding this MoU, both universities commit to a continuous, uninterrupted collaboration, grasping it as an opportunity to take up new endeavors and challenges despite the current troubling time.
